Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts With Bacon. A super simple way to make the best and most delicious Brussel Sprouts in the air fryer.

Once you have tried air fryer Brussel Sprouts with bacon you won’t want to have them any other way!

The day before yesterday I shared with you how to make Instant Pot Brussel Sprouts for Meatless Monday and how easy it was to steam them in the Instant Pot.

Then you could simply season them with salt, pepper (a little butter if that is your thing) and you had the side of your dreams.

Then have it with some meat, some fish or as part of a vegetarian or vegan meal.

I absolutely love Brussel Sprouts and one of my favourite ways to have them is with some bacon.

Bacon is like butter the way it makes everything taste AMAZING, plus with the crunch that the air fryer gives it, you just want to eat them over and over again.

They are only available here in Portugal at one supermarket and we have a 1 hour round up trip to buy them, so we don’t get them as often as we would like.

Plus they are transported from the UK and can often look a bit worse for wear by the time we buy them.

When we make air fryer Brussel Sprouts with bacon, they taste so good, but also taste so bad for you that you would assume that they had been cooked in a lot of fat and that you are going to put on half a stone if you eat them.

Well the opposite is actually true when you cook air fryer Brussel Sprouts with bacon.

There is ZERO oil involved, the fat is trimmed off the bacon and the excess fat from the bacon and the juices, form the oil for the Brussel Sprouts so they cook in what feels like a LOT of oil.

Plus, bacon has this amazing flavour that we all need in our lives!

Twenty years ago, today I was at a wedding. I was 16 at the time and there was free booze, loads of food and lots of love and laughter.

My mum had got me this awful green skirt suit to wear, with white platform heels and I looked ridiculous.

I am also terrible in high heels that I looked like I was walking like a duck. So, I am rather thankful the couple are no longer together, as then the wedding photos are unlikely to still be doing the rounds.

But what I do remember (like with most weddings) that the vegetables were really boring.

Carrots and peas like most roast dinners and what was really missing was something like Brussel Sprouts.

But let’s face it most people don’t like them and its like Marmite for peoples love/hate relationship with them. To your next question – I HATE Marmite but my mum LOVES it!

Next time you are looking for that amazing side to be your star attraction then I highly recommend that you give air fryer Brussel Sprouts with bacon a run for their money.

They are so good that kids that hate vegetables will eat them and they would make the wedding dinner stand out and say EAT ME.

When we cook our Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts with bacon with do it one of 2 ways.

We either partly cook the Brussel Sprouts first in the Instant Pot and then just crisp them up in the Air Fryer or we do the whole cooking process in the Air Fryer. It just depends on how you prefer to cook them.

If I was just to choose 2 kitchen gadgets to have forever and ever then it would be these. Normally, in the Milner house we will cook the main with one and then the side in the other.

Instructions

  • Remove the core and the outside skin of the Brussel Sprouts and place them into your Air Fryer. Cook for 10 minutes at 180c/360f.

  • While the Brussel Sprouts are cooking dice your bacon. Remove all visible fat and place them in the Air Fryer when it beeps. Now cook for a further 5 minutes at 200c/400f.

  • Serve with salt and pepper.

Notes

We use back bacon on this air fryer Brussel Sprouts with bacon recipe because it carries less fat and is a much leaner bacon. The final cooking process is done at 200c as it needs to be hotter for the bacon to be lovely and crispy.

If you’re partly cooking the Brussel Sprouts first in the Instant Pot, then drain them and then place them in the Air Fryer for 5 minutes with the bacon starting with point 2 of the recipe.

Like when you are searing beef, its always important not to overcrowd the Brussel Sprouts otherwise they won’t cook properly. Also, don’t overcook them in the Instant Pot otherwise they will become mushy. If your Brussel Sprouts are really big chop them in half so that they cook well.

Why did my brussels sprouts burn in the air fryer? If you don't shake the air fryer basket throughout the cooking process, you risk the sprouts burning before they are fully cooked. How long to air fry brussel sprouts at 375 without? ›

Over the last twenty years, farmers have mellowed the "unpleasant" flavor of Brussels sprouts by breeding a vegetable that contains fewer bitter compounds or glucosinolates.
